Welcome Bloggy Giveaway Participants!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008
If you’re new to our blog, we’re Laurie & Nikki. We are two women in Dallas walking in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day in November 2008. We believe that we can see a cure to this horrible disease in our lifetimes, and it is our goal to do all we can to help raise awareness and funds. Our goal is to raise $6000 before the walk. We are over halfway there, and that’s why we created this blog. If you feel inclined, please make a donation to help end breast cancer forever. If you found us via the quarterly Bloggy Giveaways read below for instructions on how to win a t-shirt from one of our favorite supporters.

We are also giving away a Save the Tatas t-shirt. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post. One comment per person, IP address, and e-mail address please. This is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada only. We will draw the winner after midnight on Saturday, August 2. We will contact the winner for their address.

No donation is necessary to enter and it will not increase your chances… but we will love you a little extra!

*edit* Congratulations to our winner, Charlotte, from http://owllovetostamp.blogspot.com! Here was her winning entry:

Ok, I’m entering this for my friend Gale. She had breast cancer, and she’s got an amazing attitude. She would love this shirt! Thanks for the chance to win.

Still in Training

Monday, July 21st, 2008
Nikki and I are planning to do a training walk this Thursday. Dave and I have also been working out at the gym, and sometimes I still feel like I could go into cardiac arrest when running on the treadmill and lifting weights. SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) is very serious, and you can watch sudden cardiac death video online to get the full idea and give you all the facts to help save your life or someone else’s. Believe it or not, SCA kills 325,000 people a year which totals nearly 900 per day. It also occurs without any warning and the results can be fatal if the individual is not treated within 4 to 6 minutes of the onset. I feel a lot more educated now, and I hope our fellow walkers will take a few minutes to learn more about this important medical issue.

This is a sponsored post.

Rubber Ducky, you’re the one!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008
Nikki and I are both selling pink breast cancer awareness duckies at work. One of the other 3-Day teams made this cute flyer, so I had my hubby print and laminate it for me so that we could hang them in our offices. So far I’ve sold quite a few of them, and Nikki just started this week. We plan to set up in front of Wal-Mart and a grocery store as well in an effort to raise more awareness and earn more money to reach her 3-Day goal. Want a pink rubber ducky? Make a donation to Nikki’s 3-Day walk (& leave a comment on this post afterward), and we will gladly send you one as a thank-you gift.

Save 2nd Base!

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

You all know by now that I love Save the Ta-Tas for the witty and sassy t-shirts, hats, bags and other items. I also discovered Save 2nd Base that also has a great line of breast cancer awareness items with a fun and humorous spin. Check out the cute t-shirt below. It’s $20, and 50% of the proceeds go to The Kelly Rooney Foundation.

The Kelly Rooney Foundation was established to eradicate breast cancer in young women. Through cutting-edge research, comprehensive awareness campaigns, and education programs, the Foundation will focus intently on breast cancer prevention in young women and the unique challenges they face when diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kelly lost her 4 year battle with breast cancer in 2006. Her story is heartbreaking. She left behind a loving husband and five young children. This is one of the many reasons that it is so important to fnd a cure to this terrible disease. I never want to read another story about a mother’s life being cut short, and a family having to grow up without her.
