HotelCombined.com supports me and Komen

Saturday, February 20th, 2010
Last month I received an e-mail from HotelsCombined.com with information on their Spread the Word for Charity campaign.

By letting your friends know about their awesome site, they will make a monetary donation to your choice of three very worthy charities. Currently they are supporting the World Wildlife Federation, Make A Wish, and World Vision. I immediately took to Twitter and Facebook and helped spread the word.

They were also kind enough to offer to sponsor my Susan G. Komen for the Cure 3-Day walk in November by contributing donations for friends and family that I refer to their website and program. It is easy to help and costs you absolutely nothing except a few minutes of your time and clicks of your mouse! Here is how you can help me and Susan G. Komen for the Cure:

Become a fan of HotelsCombined on Facebook, and they will donate $5. You can mention in their comments that you are supporting me and Susan G. Komen.

Tweet the following message from your Twitter account and they will donate $10:
Please RT @laurie_pooh: Check out HotelsCombined.com! I’m spreading the word and supporting Susan G Komen http://tinyurl.com/ao2rgj

Write a quick blog post like this one about HotelsCombined and their charity program (you can mention me and my walk too), and they will donate $20.

The best part? You can do one, two, or all three of the above. So won’t you help me spread the word and help me earn more donations to end breast cancer forever?

I love that HotelsCombined.com is a green and socially conscious company. What do they do? I am so glad you asked! They are a search engine that consumers can use to find hotel availability and rates. Their site allows their users to compare prices and offers from multiple merchants which means you don’t have to go to any other websites to find the best deal on your next hotel stay. Once you find the supplier suitable for your needs, they link you through to the supplier website to book directly. They offer a “complete picture” for any hotel that can be booked on the Internet, and are not paid to promote any particular website or hotel.

Go check them out for yourself. I plan on booking my next hotel through them (I found a ridiculously great rate on a room at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas!), and you should too. Want to help spread the word? You can get a nifty badge (like the one below) on their website. It couldn’t be more easy to make a donation to a wonderful charity and not even have to open your own wallet.

Thank you to those of you who have already helped, and especially to HotelsCombined for this wonderful opportunity!

I recommend HotelsCombined.com and sent $35 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure!

You can shout and help too.

Charity Web Hosting

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Your web hosting choice for a charity blog such as this one is no easy task. Obviously it cannot be too expensive because we want to give the most amount of profit to Susan G. Komen as we can.

It is always important to do your own research to make the best decision. Of course, sites like Web Hosting Choice make it super easy. They list the Top 10 web hosting sites along with the prices for each one, including special features such as set up fees, data transfer and storage. They even include information on how much notice you have to give to ask for a refund. It doesn’t get much easier.

They offer several other resources and guides that are well worth exploring if you are a first time website or blog owner and are just getting your feet wet. Easy to navigate and find the information you need, this site definitely does the detective work for you so you have more time to get started on that website.

Stylish Eastern Inspired Furniture

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

We have been in our new home for a little over a year now. We bought quite a few pieces of new furniture since we moved from an apartment to a house. Those pieces included a custom built dining room table and six chairs, and a beautiful bed with matching bedside tables. We also got a round expandable table for our kitchen that included four chairs.

Now that a year has past, I think that it is time to replace our living room furniture too. Would you believe we do not have any lamps or lamp shades? It’s true. Right now we still have the black leather sofas and glass tables from my bachelorette years. I moved the lamps we did have (Eiffel Towers) into my Paris themed bedroom. I am thinking of changing to beige sofas, so I think black accent lamps would look really sharp. See left for my personal choice.

Lombok has a lot of great stylish Eastern inspired furniture, including lighting and accessories. It’s hard to find a lot of these pieces for reasonable prices other places online. They even have a log basket which would be perfect to put near the fireplace in the winter seasons.

I am amazed with the selection of gorgeous pieces they have available. They have a wide assortment of accessories for the home, including laundry baskets. The site is also really easy to navigate, with clearly labeled sections including furniture, lighting, and accessories. I also really like the “get the look” section which shows fully decorated rooms that give you an idea of how the products might look in your own home. The prices seem really reasonable as well.

If you are interested in buying some stylish and classic pieces for your home, check out the selection at Lombok. Pssst… they have a clearance section too!

Looking for a good Lawyer?

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009
I’ve been lucky enough to not experience any personal injury, medical malpractice or serious car accidents. If you have not been quite as fortunate and need to find a good law firm in PA, check out MWSD Legal. Their law firm was established in 1994 and have been awarded the highest rating (AV) by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

The good news is that they work on a contingency fee basis which means that if they do not recover money for you, you will owe no fee to their attorneys. Their lawyers have over 100 combined years of experience working cases like these, so you know that you have hired someone reliable

Cash 4 Gold

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Do you have any gold jewelry lying around that you just don’t wear anymore? I haven’t worn yellow gold since the late 80s. I prefer white gold or silver. Gold is just not my style, and I know a lot of people that feel exactly the same way. I am sentimental though, and if I received a piece of jewelry as a gift I would not be able to sell it… unless it was from an ex.

I have quite a few pieces that I wore as a teen that either broke or were damaged. I heard about cash 4 gold on Howard Stern many years ago, and I know I should send in for my very own Refiner’s Return Pak! I can’t get the theme song he sings out of my head now: Cash for gold is America’s #1 Gold Buyer and direct refiner of precious metals!

Basically Cash4Gold purchases second hand jewelry for refining. Prices are based solely on the weight and karat grade contained in the jewelry. All you do is send in your jewelry and they send you a check. It’s fast and easy. Check out their website for more information how how to get your own return pak so that you can start making money off your jewelry that you don’t wear anymore. You could even donate your proceeds to your favorite charity such as Susan G. Komen.
